Database-Specific Aspects
In the following, the most important database-specific aspects are described that might have an impact on your overall planning.
-
Database backup before the update
You have to be able to recover the database to its state before the update was started. This means that you have to back up the database at the latest when the system stops production operation.
-
Isolation of the primary application server instance
When you isolate the primary application server instance at the end of roadmap step Preprocessing, you are prompted to stop all work in the system.
-
Disable log archiving
At the beginning of roadmap step Execution, the Software Update Manager asks you to disable log archiving as described in the document IBM Db2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: New Log File Management.
-
Database backup at the end of the update
At the end of the update, the Software Update Manager asks you to enable log archiving as described in the document IBM Db2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: New Log File Management, to make a full backup of your database, and to continue.
For more information about the Database Recovery Mode, see Changing the Db2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Recovery Mode.
