Downtime-Optimized Conversion

Performance Impact

From the performance impact perspective, the HANA in-place scenario is the most critical.

The HANA in-place scenario is the most critical because uptime activities are being executed on the same database in parallel with production operations.

Particularly in this scenario, we highly recommend that you perform the following activities:
  • Choose the number of DIA/BTC parallel processes in the SUM configuration steps in such a way that out-of-memory or admission control situations (CPU & memory) on the database side that cause disruption on the running business are avoided.

  • See SAP Note 1969799 Information published on SAP site SQL Statement Collection for SAP HANA that provides several SQL statements and helps you monitor the usage of the database and identify potential issues.

  • Actively monitor the system with standard monitoring tools, such as the following:
    • ABAP: Transactions in the shadow system: SM66, ST02, ST22, SM04

    • DB: HANA Studio, HANA Cockpit

    • Operating system: top, nmon, glance
